ACN – Should You Avoid Joining?

If you’ve considered getting into the direct sales business, you’ve likely come across the company called ACN. As you research ACN or other direct sales companies, you will also likely come across mixed reviews about the various companies and opportunities. How can you decipher which reviews are honest, and which are misleading? Should a bad review be a warning sign that you should avoid joining that company?

Here is some information about ACN and ACN reviews to consider as you sift through the massive amount of information you’ll find online.

What is ACN?

ACN originally stood for American Communications Network, but now only goes by the acronym ACN. It was founded in 1993 by Greg Provenzano, Tony Cupisz, Robert Stevanovski and Mike Cupisz. The company offers home and business telecommunication, energy, and security services sold by Independent Business Owners (IBOs) within the company. Some of the services they provide include:

  • Digital, local, and long-distance phone Service
  • Internet
  • Energy
  • Satellite TV
  • Home Security & Automation
  • Technical Support
  • Merchant Services

Some of the many companies that have partnerships with ACN include Dish Network, T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon, Vivint, Directv, and Comcast. ACN offers competitively-priced packages sold to customers by the IBO’s who then make a commission from the sale. As IBO’s recruit more members to their team, they make commissions from their sales, also.

Is it a scam?

The business model is pretty straightforward, so why are there so many reviews of a supposed ACN scam? As you do your research, you may notice a pattern among the reviews claiming ACN is a scam or a pyramid scheme – they are from former company members whose experience with the company did not meet their expectations.

Like many direct sales companies, there is a lot of money to be made with ACN, and those who have found success in the company share their stories in hopes to inspire others. Some have no higher education, or limited business experience prior to working for ACN, and their stories of rising to the top inspire others that despite their background, they can also be successful. The problem is that people then assume that if people with less education or business experience can be successful, it will be easy for them. But success rarely comes easy for anyone, and those who are successful with any direct marketing company have worked extremely hard for their success. When faced with rejections from potential recruits or turned-down sales, people often get discouraged and frustrated that they haven’t made the money they expected. It’s important to realize that successful people in any business adapt. If they aren’t making sales, they learn different selling strategies, how to win over customers, or how to manage their time wisely. They understand that it can take 20 “no’s” before they get a “yes,” and most importantly, they don’t quit. Success comes from perseverance in the direct sales business.

Does it cost to join?

Starting any business costs money, and ACN is no different. Those interested in becoming IBO’s with ACN must pay an initial fee to join, and then a monthly fee to maintain their standing in the company. There are also optional meetings and trainings, but they are not required. ACN offers a refund policy for anyone dissatisfied with their experience within 10 days from signing their agreement. All of this information is available to those who sign up, so it is unfortunate when those who signed-up ill-informed and with unrealistic expectations quit and then place the blame on the company.

ACN offers a real opportunity for sales and business-minded individuals to make money offering legitimate services that most people already use at a competitive rate. The Better Business Bureau has given ACN an A+ rating, which speaks to the integrity of the business model and conduct of the company. If you don’t shy away from hard work and are goal-oriented, don’t pass up an opportunity based on poor internet reviews. Do your research and find legitimate sources for the most accurate information, and set realistic expectations and goals.
